Ultrasound therapy

What is ultrasound therapy?

It is a therapy that uses the mechanical properties of high frequency sound waves. The therapy uses a frequency of 1 to 3 MHz. The effects at this frequency penetrate with high effect into both superficial and deep tissues. During the application of ultrasound, no electric current passes through the tissue. Ultrasound therapy mechanically massages and stimulates molecules and molecular particles in the tissues. Subsequently, the treated tissues are perfused. Ultrasound therapy is characterized not only by the blood supply to the treated tissue, but also by the stimulation of the tissues. As it is a therapy that uses mechanical energy, we can also use it to alter tendon tissues, for example, in the case of tissue calcification or problems with growths.

The aplication of ultrasound

Ultrasound is applied using a metal head that emits ultrasound waves. The application uses a special gel to ensure the head glides smoothly over the skin. The application takes 3-5 minutes. For acute conditions, the therapy can be performed 1-2 times a day, for chronic conditions, applications are indicated less frequently, for example 3 times a week.

What are the benefits of ultrasound therapy?

The most important role of ultrasound is to stimulate the blood supply to the treated area. Ultrasound promotes the recovery of damaged tissue and thus the healing process is significantly accelerated. A very common source of pain is swelling, which ultrasound therapy alleviates and thus induces an improvement in the patient's perceived condition. The main component of tendon and muscle tissue is collagen, the production of which is promoted by this therapy. It also causes better expansion of the collagen fibres, which has a positive effect on, for example, scars that appear after injuries or various surgical procedures.

Indications of ultrasound therapy

Myalgia, lumbago, arthritis, arthrosis, joint swelling, Morbus Bechterev, post-traumatic pain therapy, enthesopathy (tennis elbow), therapy of postherpetic neuralgia, scars.

Contraindications of ultrasound therapy

Fresh bleeding, menstruation, fractures, growth slit area in children.

The use of ultrasound in cosmetics

Ultrasound therapy is also used in cosmetics and dermato-cosmetics. The therapy has a lymphatic draining effect, it oxygenates the tissues and performs micromassage of the deep layers.

It has a positive effect on:

  • Metabolism process
  • Production of enzymes
  • removal of metabolic wastes
  • fat pad reduction
  • cellulitis
  • absorption of vitamins
  • skin revitalization
